5 Types of Dental Assisting Students: Which One Are You?

a dentist and dental assisting working on a patientAs a student in dental assisting in Lebanon, it’s likely you’re still trying to discover your way around the material and how best you learn. For some, this is easy, but for others, it takes time. As you navigate your way through the program, you might find that you fall into one of the following 5 categories. Find out which type of dental assisting student you are!

The Organized and Eager Type

You are organized and eager to learn everything there is to know about the profession. Not only do you strive to succeed in every aspect of dental assisting school in Lebanon, but you are committed to completing your on homework on time and achieving the highest grades possible. It’s likely you’re the first to answer questions and volunteer to lead any group activities.

The Networking Type

If you believe school is all about making connections, you’re partially right. While it is important to connect and network with your peers and others in the industry, it’s also just as important to learn the material. In the classroom setting, you prefer class discussions that allow you to converse with others and meet new people. You might also find yourself getting into a bit of trouble with your professors for talking a bit too much in class with those around you.

The Focused and Quiet Type

If you would rather stick to the books and avoid social interaction while in school, you can probably most easily identify with this type of student. As a focused and quiet type, you prefer to draw as little attention to yourself as possible, meaning you don’t speak up in class much. Although you enjoy working by yourself instead of groups, it will be necessary for you to emerge from your shell enough to embrace what lies ahead as a dental assistant.

The “I’ll Get it Done Later” Type

Everyone knows someone who is a procrastinator. Do you put off your homework until the night before its due? Do you wait to study for that exam until the wee hours of the morning before the big test? Being motivated may not be your strong suit, but you somehow manage to get it done. Be careful if you are this type of student, as putting things off until the last minute won’t be the best course of action as a dental assistant. Once you are working in a dental office, you’ll need to be organized and ready to help the moment the dentist needs your help.

The One Who Requires Frequent Breaks

Trying to focus on what is being taught isn’t always easy, but it’s important if you want to succeed in dental assisting school. If you require frequent breaks, that’s okay, just make sure you set aside enough time to thoroughly learn the material. While you may find yourself drawing or trying to stay awake during class, talk to someone about ways you can refocus and reset, so you’re ready to learn.

Whether you’re trying to determine what type of student you are or already know, get ready to enjoy a fun-filled career as a dental assistant. Your time in school will prepare you for a lifetime of endless opportunities and rewarding benefits.

It was a great experience! I was very nervous about dental and wasn’t sure how much I’d like it but through this experience I feel a lot better about going into the field. Jeanie who is the instructor is also a very warm person and truly cares for each of her students and their growth in the field.
